Prescription Insurance Plans Knowledge Base
How do health insurance plans apply a deductible to prescription medicines? My insurance (Unicare Platinum PPO Performance) says there is a $25 copay on brand name prescriptions. It also says there is a $200 deductible on brand name prescriptions. Last Friday I picked up Levaquin and I had to pay $150. They said it's because I haven't met my deductible yet. So how does that work? Do I have to pay regular prices on brand name prescriptions until I've paid $200 during the 12-month period before I can start paying $25 per prescription? I thought the copay started automatically. I guess I was naieve.
Im looking for an insurance plan in Canada that covers accutane? Im currently on antibiotics and a strong topical treatment for my body acne and i also have mild to moderate facial acne and im using treatments for that too and the strong topical treatment was $75, and i am going back to the dermatologist in 3 months to see if i need accutane and i most likely will so what would be a good prescription insurance plan to help cover a good amount of the price of accutane.
does anyone know of any good prescription insurance? We are a low income family who apparently make too much to qualify for any state assistance. I have expensive medicine needed for panic disorder every month and can't afford it. Does anyone know of any prescription plans that are affordable and worth it?
Does snyone know of any good health insurance plans in Michigan? Preferably a PPO where preexisting conditions is not an issue. No deductible, low copays, no limit on doctor visits because as I stated before there are preexisting conditions, out of net-work coverage, and prescription drug coverage. (Female, 25, no children). Thanks in advance. Where can I get more information about Messa of BCBS? Do you have a link? My preexisting condition is scoliosis, I have to see a nuerosurgeon, a cardiologist, and a pulmonary specialist.
What would be a good health insurance for me? I am considered part-time where I work and its 150$ a month for health insurance, compared to 70$ for full timers. My wife was going to add me to her plan, (we work at the same place, but she is full-time) But it will still come out to the same per month as it would be I I just got it. I only want the insurance for a year cause then if my wife add's me on next year, it will be like me being full-time. So I want a decent insurance with a decent prescription plan. I was looking into Highmark PPOBlue.
Why are prescription medicines in the USA generally priced higher than the same products purchased in Canada? Brand named prescription drugs are generally purchased in the USA but in many cases the same drugs can be obtained from reliable Canadian sources at lower prices. Also, in some cases, Canadian sources have generics of the brand named drugs that are not available in the USA. This matter is becoming increasingly important as USA citizens are being faced with issues of lack of adequate insurance coverage and/or the matter of dealing with prescription plans containing the new found problem called the"Gap" or"Doughnut Hole".

What is a good health insurance plan for a student? I am about to turn 23, and I will not be eligible on my parent's insurance plan anymore and I am now looking for new health insurance. My school does have an insurance plan, but it is $1800 annually. This seems pretty expensive to me. I am on no prescription medications with no preexisting conditions, and I am not overweight. I live in the Overland Park, KS area. Would you suggest applying online, or could you give any recommendations for websites?
Help with discount prescription plans.? My fiance is having to take some pretty expensive meds. She works for a hospital and her insurance coverage sucks. Does anyone know of a Prescription plan to pay monthly that will give us some kind of discount? A link would help.
Question about company drug insurance plans (Canada)? I work for a company based in Canada and I am insured with Great West Life through company benefits. I am covered for drug insurance. I am currently taking prescription drugs that are relatively expensive and I am considering trying to get coverage under my plan. I am reluctant to do so because I do not want anybody I work with to know 1) what drugs I take 2) what condition I have I would like to know if this information is kept 100% confidential or do I have to reveal the drugs I need and the condition I have in order to get covered?
Canadian Health Insurance; Medicare or Private and which private companies are best? Right now I am on my father's work insurance plan. I turn 21 in January and will no longer be insured under his plan. I work full-time, am not a student right now, am a non-smoker, but my problem is that I've been diagnosed with depression and a slew of other mental health problems, so I take a lot of prescription medication. I also have scoliosis and see a chiropractor on a regular basis. I called up Manulife insurance, which used to be my insurer a few years back, and I was basically told that I would be refused under their FlexCare policy because of my depression. I would probably be accepted under their FollowMe plan. My question is; Would I be better off getting my own plan with a private company, or should I just stick with regular MediCare? Will they cover my drugs? If I should go with private, which companies are best? Thanks a lot! In case anyone else is as dim as these two: Yes, I live in CANADA. Hence the 'CANADIAN Health Insurance' part of my question. Ayoy t'es pas vite. Um, dunno what government you're talking about there P&M but Canadian MediCare DOES cover many prescription drugs. Not always in full and some only if it's the generic brand, but they certainly do cover many prescriptions.
Can someone answer my health insurance question? I currently am paying for COBRA. I am 61 years old, female. I am on long term disability & disability social security. I am able to get medicare when I am 62. I have a pre existing condition, COPD. Looks like no one will accept me, except Blue Cross. I need a medical supplement PLUS an exceptional prescription plan. I am on many meds, including oxygen 24/7. I make too much money to qualify for medicaid or any other help. ANY of you insurance agents have any ideas? I will be 62 on April 5th. Any help is much appreciated. I have searched & looked on the internet & most of them I do not trust. I have heard too many bad stories about them. I am paying $490.00 a month plus co pays now & it is killing me. RED VELVET: What is GHI ? I never heard of it.
Are you ever able to return unused medicine to the pharmacy for a refund? My insurance plan has a mandatory mail-order prescription plan. I had to order a 3 month supply of birth control pills, however I only used 1 packet before I had to stop because of the side effects. I have 2 unused, sealed pill packets left. It seems a shame for them to go to waste and for me to flush 50 bucks down the drain, too. Does anyone have any other suggestions? or know of charities that would accept the pills as a donation?
What is the best prescription discount plan available? I pay an arm and a leg for 4 medications to control seizures and chronic headaches. Most of the cost is because 2 of the medications do not have a generic. Each monthly supply is nearly $700 and I have started getting them in weekly supplies which runs about $150. This would be one nice new car. My insurance company ended up denying me due to the epilepsy, but their prescription coverage sucked. So, I am looking to see what the best recommended plan is, they are all over the place from free to $20 a month, and just way too many to choose from. Any help would be good as far as pointing me towards a good plan that will save me more that $5 a month.
Most Comprehensive Health Insurance for a College Student? I'll be going to college in a few years, and I'm fully aware of the healthcare crisis. Although money is an issue, my health is more important. Assuming that money is not an issue, what health insurance company provides the most comprehensive and inclusive health insurance policies available? Is there an insurance company out there that will let me do the following? - Choose my own doctor/hospitol - Pay relatively low co-pays - Cover the cost of any prescriptions - Pay for health, medical, eye, and dental on one plan - Pay for the majority of any psychotherapist appointments - Continue coverage despite sudden circumstances (major illness, accident, etc.) - Cover the cost/majority of a specialist upon doctor reccommendation Does such a health insurance plan exist, besides the plan available from the state?
Where can I buy group health insurance besides work? I'm thinking of starting my own business, or just going on sobatical. I need catastrophic coverage (emergency room visits) and a good prescription plan (to cover long-term meds) at a minimum. For the Rx plan, I'd like to avoid any pre-existing conditions exclusions since some of my meds are expensive. Ideally, I would like to have hmo/ppo coverage like I have now, but it would seem like that can't happen. I've heard some stories about joining certain clubs to this end, but have no specific info. Thanks in advance!
Do I need to have a prescription for Plan B? Do I have to go to my doctor first to get a prescription for Plan B or can I just get it over the counter at a pharmacy? Will my Medicaid insurance cover it without a prescription? Thanks so much for your help :)
Where can a 29 year old student find health insurance? I am a 29 year old substitute teacher and part time student. I am looking for some type of affordable health isurance and prescription plan. I am in need of some help...I have no idea where to look. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
What is the best all around insurance plan? I am a 23 year old smoker. Right now I just want coverage for myself. Something that pays for visits and prescriptions. I d also like to be able to add on my unborn child and girlfriend in the future.
How do you approach your company if your insurance stinks?? The prescription plan wants us to get prescriptions thru their own company in three month intervals. But they say they are out of stock or all kinds of reasons they can't fill them. If we fill them in a local pharmacy then we pay. What is the best way to approach the company about getting it changed or getting them to approach the company with complaints?? Any suggestions??
Health insurance for young, healthy people? I'm trying to find a health insurance plan made for someone like me- 26, male, non-smoker,non-drinker, currently at ideal weight, regularly exercises, no health conditions, no prescriptions, etc. I mostly want something that'll cover check-ups with maybe a small co-pay, and then has a high deductable for a broken bone/ sports injury etc. Everything available at my job seems to cater to the chronically ill/ older/ heavy prescription user. private plans are to much per month. This is why I decline medical benefits, year after year! I know any of these plans would be helpful in the case of serious injury- just in case. But none seems to offer any tangible benefits like, I don't know, 2 doctor visits a year? Every plan requires that I exhaust my deductable first- I'll never spend 250-1000 a year for doctors visits! I'm guessing, based on cost that a high deductable plan is best for my broken bone scenario- but how can then screw me out of seeing a doctor just to get a check up? i want HEALTH INSURANCE, NOT LIFE INSURANCE. I DON"T CARE IF MY CREDITORS GET PAID OFF IF I DIE- AND I HAVE NO DEPENDENTS/FAMILY.
How do I find out if my prescriptions are covered under my new insurance plan? It is an Anthem HSA plan.? I just switched to a new insurance plan through Anthem. It is one of those HSA plans so I have a large deductible before most things are covered. I just hit the deductible and am not trying to figure out how to get prescriptions filled. There is no formulary published with the plan or on Anthem's web site. So, I don't know if my current (or any new) drugs are covered. I tried to ask through an email and was told that I would have to call customer service and ask about each one. That isn't workable. "The term Prescription Drug means drugs, biologicals, and compounds which can be dispensed legally only upon written authorization by a Physician, which are required by law to bear the legend “Caution: Federal Law prohibits dispensing without a prescription,” and which are listed in one or more of the following publications: United States Pharmacopeia, The National Formulary, or Accepted Dental Remedies." Where do I find these? Has anyone worked with this plan?
Who needs a prescription benefits card? Sooner or later everyone has to go to the doctor, but a lot of people hesitate because they do not get benefits or they are tired of HIGH priced insurance plans. I want people to be informed that there are more choices out there. There is a company that is offering free prescription benefits cards that last for a year. It is hard however, to find an avenue where people will listen without thinking everything is a scam. So I am asking if there is anyone in need of this information.
Help with Discount prescription plans.? My fiance is having to take some pretty expensive meds. She works for a hospital and her insurance coverage sucks. Does anyone know of a Prescription plan to pay monthly that will give us some kind of discount? A link would help.
Why the discrepancy in mail-order prescription plans? When an insurance company only allows patients to obtain 90-day supplies with 3 refills for a total of 360...or in the case of "women's" pills, 84 day supplies for a total of 346 tablets....but will not cover a gyno exam until AFTER the anniversary date of the last one (365/366 days), what is the patient supposed to do for the 19-20 days in between? Add to that the time it takes to mail-in, process and return, and you have an entire month or more with no meds. Can't they do the math?
Fertility Drugs and Insurance companies, I found a way to get my Clomid covered!? This isn't a question, more like a tip for all of you ttc, like myself. I was prescribed Clomid this month, and I found out that even though my prescription plan (which is a different carrier than my health insurance provider) wont cover the drug b/c its for infertility, I live in NJ and NJ law says that all health insurance companies with policies for employers with 50+ employees (med to large) based in NJ, even if they arent your prescription plan company Must cover fertility drugs. Same as they cover insulin for diabetics (insulin is a drug but it's covered by health insurance companies, not prescription plan companies) It does come out of pocket and after filing a claim you get reimbursed. Just figured I'd share this info with all of you b/c I know it can get very expensive month after month. It's certainly something to look into for the state you live in. But I know for certain NJ does it and my health insurance is Horizon blue cross blue sheild NJ. Good luck to all of you
How can I get assistance with paying for my prescriptions my insurance wont cover? i am morbidly obese (5'9"-294 lbs)I have insulin resistant diabetes. In my treatment plan I am to take along with my Metformin 2 other drugs to aid in my weight loss BYETTA-and XENACAL. I also have neuropathy as a complication from the diabetes and am prescribed LYRICA. My insurance will not cover the XENECAL for it is a weight loss drug and considered a "frivilous" expense. Nor will they cover LYRICA for it is new on the market .Ineed these meds in order to live a productive life to help loose the weight so i will not be diabetic. I am 45. I want to live until I'm 75. With out these meds ,I could die in 5 years. The cost of these meds are -XENECAL-$230.00 for a 30 day supply LYRICA-$210.00 for a 30 day supply.
What is the best global/international medical insurance? Hi. What is the most comprehensive individual-policy medical insurance that includes prescription drug coverage? I want to teach English in China someday and it depresses me that I won't be able to retain my job's medical insurance for USA coverage. I'd have to purchase my own. I'm afraid that I might get a plan that won't cover important things if I get sick. Posting this under China as I know there are lots of expatriats on this part of Y/A.... PS. I understand that many schools will provide some sort of insurance in China; my main concern is coverage should I wish to obtain medical treatment back in the USA.... Thanks. Again, my concern is NOT gettting treatment in CHINA but retaining the option of getting treatment in the USA if I choose to...
Insurance and medications? I have a few questions about insurance and prescriptions. 1) When you fill a prescription, does it show up elsewhere what exactly you filled? I am still a full time student so I am still on my parents insurance...even though I am 23 years old, I don’t have a full time job while I am in grad school. I don’t mind my mother knowing hat I have genital warts but I don’t want her to worry (she knows I had an abnormal pap and that really stressed her out) So if I were to fill the prescription for Aldara, would she be able to see that? 2) How much does this medication run for? I know it varies by insurance plans but on average...how much is it? How much is it without insurance? Thank you all for your answers in advance and please no rude immature comments
Where can I find basic and cheap health insurance? I am a 25 year old part time college student looking for very basic and cheap health insurance. I had prior insurance under my father’s plan but was dropped when I turned 25. Legally I can elect COBRA continuation coverage but the monthly cost is above what I can afford. I am looking for cheap insurance that would cover doctor visits and prescriptions. I am not very knowledgeable about any of this; any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Florida heath plans and/or prescriptions plans? Hi, I am currently employed full time and have great heath insurance... however the company I work for was bought out and now we are going to have to go to a company self insured plan.. which in short has a high deductible.. and prescriptions will no longer be a co-pay . it will be 60%of the cost.. I am looking for information on prescription plans and would like to know if they can be used in addition to insurance. What are some of the better ones around. I live in Florida. Thank you.
Should I be getting some money back? Short term health insurance? I'm a recent college graduate. I was still under my parents' insurance for about a month after. I visited my doctor with that insurance once. My next visit was under my NEW short term health insurance. However, my new insurance plan did not accept any of the claims for office visits, prescription, etc. because they claimed it was a "pre-existing condition". Is this valid even though I was under my parents' plan?? I'm basically paying out-of-my pocket for everything! It's very expensive and I'm so frustrated. Is there some way I can fight them for it? Is there no chance? Any advice? Now, I'm in need of new health insurance. Any suggestions? I'm looking into Aetna or GoldenRule... And is it better to get a regular plan than short term?
what is a good family prescription plan? for someone who has insurance? my sister's family has insurance through her husband work and a crappie prescription card, with copay her kids asthma meds are coming out to like $800 a mth. she needs to get them on a better prescription plan. we live in Fl and she doesn't not qualify for Medicaid or anything like that. thanks
which prescription drug plan is best avail? I currently have prescription drug coverage over and above medicare. I realize there a few changes as to those insurance co carrying addition costs thru donut hole. I have six current meds and needing something realistic. Currently have Advantrarx premium plus.
I need an insurance plan... any suggestions? I am currently under my husband (he is a Deputy Sheriff in North Carolina), and I am a full-time student. I need a plan with no deductible (I have monthly prescriptions, so I always need to be able to afford a doctor's visit.) My husband is currently paying $460 a month JUST FOR ME. I don't have any major medical problems.... so I think this is ridiculous. Any suggestions would be appreciated! mbrcatz17- just wondering how this warrants a rude answer? If you are an agent, you could have been a lot of help here, like telling me if Aetna is a reputable company or not. $460 is ridiculous- I don't care what you say. All I take every month is Celexa, but I have to have it. Thanks for nothing.

When I voice my opinions against illegal-immigration....the illegals will say: get a life!? They will say..why should you care if it doesn't affect you? First off, it does affect me in many ways. One example is my huge medical insurance bills and dropped prescription plan. Second off what kind of citizen would i be just to lay back and let parasites walk all over the laws of this country? You tell me to get a life...YOU should get your life back in your country of orgin and leave the good citizens alone watch somebody pull the race card...just watch those craven dopes whisper..how do you think the illegals pay for medical care?....THEY DONT...think about it..the money has to come from somewhere. Omg I live in a Hispanic ghetto....I know what I'm talking about mami...
balanced budget amendment? In reply to those who think the U.S. is barrowing it's money from our own banks, that is not true. Today the United States is barrows most of it's money from China, and other wealthy countries like India and Saudi Arabia. A balanced budget ammendment may not eliminate the deficit but it should curb spending. It is up to us, the free citizens of the United States to let our government know that we want them to start spending our tax dollars more responsibly. Send letters to your congressman and senator, write letters to your news paper. When profits are down at my company, we cut back on travel and unnecesary spending, we also have co-pays on our health insurance and prescription drug plans. Do you think our government does? By the way, no one in Washington pays into social security, they are public servants and have a private retirement funded with TAX dollars

Does anyone knows whether he is eligable to buy the said med insurance? Which Insurance Co.? What Plan? To whom he can contact for a quotation? Prescription cost help? My company recently switched to a preventitive medicine only insurance plan, meaning my insurance will no longer pay for my chronic illness medications which total about 600 dollars a month. I need help with the cost. I am too "rich to be poor enough to get help for low income", yet I don't even come close to making enough money to pay for my meds out of pocket. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might be able to get help with the cost of my meds? plz help. thanx.
I need help in making Health Insurance decisions.... let me explain:? My husband and I are both disabled. We both receive Medicare Parts A & B. Husband took disability retirement 8 years ago from the VA (Federal Government), and through them, we pay a monthly premium for Aetna health insurance, which helps to cover my expensive prescriptions. We thought that Aetna would pick up the leftover costs of whatever Medicare did not cover. WRONG. The Aetna policy we have is not a Medicare Supplement plan; just a plain vanilla healthcare HMO. I've been trying to do some research, but it is driving me crazy trying to decipher what the Federal Government offers its disability-retirement employees versus what Medicare offers, including its Plan D for prescriptions. I've already used some of the online decision-making tools, but I'm still not getting a clear picture of what's out there and how we would save any $$.There are seminars all over the county put on by local BC/BS Medicare Advantage plans, but they are all trying to sell something.Whom can I trust to help?

Looking for secondary insurance to help with medical costs, any recommendations? My company provides insurance for me and I added my family, but 2007 has all new rates for my plan (Cigna). My prescription rates went from $35-$50 copay to 30 % - 50%. I can't afford to keep this up! and its only Feb. I've been trying to look up secondary insurance but it seems to be for Medicare or Medical insured. Does any one have secondary insurance and what company is it? THanks
