What type of lawyer is needed to fight my private disability insurance company? What kind of lawyer should I look for to assist me with a devious disability insurance company? I want to stop them from harrassing, aggravating, and interferring with my recovery. I've paid into this long-term disabilty policy for years, but now that I'm recovering from severe depression, I've had nothing but trouble from these people. Plus, after putting my through months of hell, now they want me to go to their doctor for a second opinion...is this legal? They've done alot of under-handed and shifty crap regarding my claim, but I just don't have the energy or strength to fight them alone while I'm trying to recover. Is there any place online that I can go to research this kinda of stuff? Please help....I'm at my last straw.
What are the reasons to get both Short-term and long-term disability income insurance? I'm thoroughly confused as usual. But, if you have the option to get both short and long term disability insurance why would you? Does the short term cover things the long term doesn't? Doesn't long term cover the short term period as well anyway? Or do you have to have both to be covered in the immediate future and long term??? Why does everything have to be so complicated why cant there just be one kind of disability insurance its soo annoying....Which one would you get or would you get both???? arrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggg. I'm only 28 so don't know if thats a factor, in relatively good health...but in a profession that can be dangerous. Mental health field, direct care. What about individual policies, should I consider paying outside of the company if they dont offer both of these..... thank you for any assistance
Are rates for disability insurance different in different states? To clarify: I own Guardian own-occupation disability insurance, which was initiated in California. Given a recent income increase, I am eligible to exercise a rider to increase my disability coverage. Are my premiums going to go up a different amount if I increase my coverage through my agent in CA than if I increase it through a different agent, say, in Ohio? Are these riders and insurance premiums nationally uniform for personal disability insurance plans through Guardian?
Anyone know of an insurance company you can get disability insurance through if already have a disability? If you already have a pre-existing condition (a disability), most insurance companies don't seem to allow you to get short or long term disability insurance. Are there any companies that will allow you to get short or long term disability anyway, with the exclusion that if you become disabled due to your disability it won't cover it, but if you become disabled some other way (like an accident or something) then you would be covered? I know they call these "riders" but can't find a company willing to do this. Looking for a company that will. Anyone know of any?

DISABILITY INSURANCE.....Who Has Been On Disability, and How Do You Sign Up For It? I am going to have surgery in a couple of weeks, and will not be able to work for about a 2 months. Is disability insurance a part of your health insurance?? If it is not work related, and I will not be getting worker's comp, will I still be able to get some kind of income while out of work? I've never had to be on disability before, and don't know anything about getting it.
Is mortgage disability insurance a good idea? I have 90 day disability at work, but I would like to know my mortgage is covered should I become disabled. I am single and do not have family, so am less worried about life mortgage insurance than disability. But, I don't want to waste money either.

Do you need to report state disability insurance? My wife was on disability for about 8 weeks due to pregnancy. We have a tax appointment this weekend but I have not received the 1099G form for disability only Family leave act. Will she get the 1099 or not? I looked on the SDI for california and it does not mention anything about having to report it. Paid Family Leave does say that the money will be reported and you will get the 1099G but disability does not mention anything. Before I call my tax guy or the state does anybody know anything about this?

I need help with disability insurance? I am looking for any recommendations for companies offering short and long term disability insurace and what kind of disability insurance I would need. I am 24 married with no kids at the moment. My job is very low-risk and does not offer disability.
What disability programs/insurance can I get in on? I'm 20 and I have crohn's disease. I was also diagnosed with it a long time ago. Which is listed as a disabling disease. In the upcoming years, i'll be falling off my parent's insurance. Yet I wont be out of college, or be making enough to cover my medicines. Which without insurance would cost me about 1,000 a month for my three perscriptions. I was wondering what kind of disability benefits or programs I could get. I was diagnosed with crohn's while i was a child. I know i can't get social security because, they wont give partial disability. I really don't want to go under as fully disabled otherwise going to college is kinda pointless. I just want to get a little help paying for my medicine, specialist visits as well as those delightful procedures i'm forced to endure annually. Anyone have any ideas?
does a disability insurance work if I live outside the United States? I am planning to move out of the US back to my home country. My friend tells me that it won't work outside the country, but I think otherwise. Do any of you know if I live outside the United States will I be able to receive a direct deposit or something like that? I am a reliance standard user.
Is disability insurance worth the investment? I have the option of signing up for long-term disability insurance through my place of employment. When I was young and single, I really never considered insurance much. However, now that this once wild stallion has been domesticated into family life, it seems that there are other concerns that need to be met, such as ensuring continued support for my family in the event that something should happen. I still think insurance is a scam, but apparently a necessary evil these days. For those of you who question my willingness to label insurance as a scam and necessary evil, I recall first hand the dilemma my mother had after a severe accident. Despite having paid her premiums on time and being declared as disabled after the accident, the insurance company did everything it could to weasel out of paying her the premium. She had to get a lawyer and fight it in court, eventually winning, but not without legal costs. Hence, my view of insurance companies.
Where do I pay the State Disability Insurance? I just joined the company as a Book-Keeper. We use ADP service for Payroll. In ADP Report there is deduction from employee paycheck for 1.20 per employee. ADP pays all the other taxes but this comes as a client responsibility. Is there "secret" disability insurance with utility companies? I am on Short term disability for a pregnancy complication. Disability Insurance ...? If I am put on disability insurance and have to leave work for a certain amount of time do they have to continue to offer me medical insurance? Or will they drop me until I come back?
Disability insurance? I was on disability for a surgery I had. I went back to the Drs office and was told I had to have one more surgery which would happen that next Wednesday. I asked him if I could return to work and he said I could go to work for 2 days and that was it. I went back to work on the 10 and 11th and then got my first disability check on the 15th. What do I do to notify the disability office that I worked that 2 days and how do I explain it to them. I was on Disability until the 4th of the next month. 44 minutes ago - 3 days left to answer.
Disability Insurance? What could be some reasons or symptons where after your post six weeks is over, where you can continue to recieve more money from Disability due to pregnancy?
Find disability insurance with 2 1/2 year or longer wait period.? I have a problem acquiring private disability insurance. The problem is my employer - they offer 2 1/2 years worth of disability insurance for free. I could decline it, but that would be moronic. I can't request less, or buy more. Most private insurance companies have a maximum 2-year wait period. You can't set it any higher, so I end up with half a year of double insurance. Because of this, I can't be underwritten. I offered to PAY for a 2-year wait and only get a 2 1/2 year wait, but the adjusters won't go for it, and my insurance agent can't get them to budge. Does anyone know of companies that offer insurance that may be relevant to me? -->Adam
disability insurance question? im in what you could call a temporary position even though I'm getting 43 hrs a week, still part-time as the company hasn't switched my status to full time and most likely wont change it while in this position. Im only filling in for someone who is absent due to pregnancy. I make a measly 10 bucks an hr and as I said the position is temporary and sooner or later I should be moving into a real position that has a salary compatible with someone with a masters degree which may or may not be with the same company. So my reasoning is that I should just wait until I have a full-time position with stability and good income before I worry about getting short and/or long term disability income insurance...Does that reasoning make sense to others or should i get disability anyway even though my salary is bound to change probably within no later than 3 or 4 months....?? oh by the way as a part-time employee I would have to also purchase the disability income insurance outside of the company since it isnt offered for parttime employees. im 28 years old im healthy and have a good deal of savings wouldnt social security or whatever governmental or state funding care for my needs if I became disabled anyway since im only making 10 bucks an hr I wouldnt see it being much of a stretch what sort of requirements are there for a person to get help from the government in the case of a disability?
disability insurance percentage of income covered? my long term disability income insurance policy is set at 60% of my salary covering through age 65 I also have a short term policy that covers me until that 180 days is up and the long term kicks in, does this sound sufficient or should I get an life insurance policy with a monthly disability rider which pays an income as well that my insurance agent is trying to sell me to support my long term policy.. I dont make enough income to qualify for any of my insurance agents supplemental long term disability plans to help with the long term plan I have through work thats why he suggested the life insurance with the monthly disability rider
Long term disability insurance!!!? I am 25 years old and couple of years back I had a terrible car accident. Doctors didnt expect me to survive. I have an artificial graft attached to my heart for "Aneurysm" and I have a rod in my right leg. If you see me personally, then you will never be able to make out that I ever I had an accident. Doctors said that my young age was a positive point in my total recovery. I am an engineer and I can do most of my day to day activities normally, but say suppose I have some complications in future and I am not being able to perform my job, then should I get some kind of disability insurance? The accident was not my fault. The 16 year old kid who was driving that sports car, caused an accident and died. I am left with an artificial part of my heart and a broken leg. I might even become handicap after a while, so should I go for the disability insurance? How does it work? Will it account for my pre-existing health condition caused by someone else? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Ballpark estimate of disability insurance premiums? My husband's employer does not offer disability insurance and we are looking at getting a simple disability plan from our private insurer State Farm. I would just like to know roughly how much premiums are for this kind of dis. insurance. I've looked online, but you have to enter all kinds of personal information before any company (whether insurance or quote finder) will send you any info. Seems like putting a big sign on my email and screaming "SPAM ME!" So just curious what other people pay for this. My husband is 28, non-smoking, not overweight, and is healthy. He's a high school teacher.
Is disability insurance worth getting? We have plenty of life insurance to cover our needs. But now our agent is suggesting that we purchase disability insurance for my husband in the event he becomes disabled and cannot work. I'm not sure it's worth the expense (at $250/month). What do you think?
Ex-Employee want me to send her Disability Insurance Claim Forms? Does anyone know if I am required to send a terminated employee Disability Insurance Claim Forms? I terminated an employee I had found out was stealing from the company and a week later she called up demanding I send her my company disability insurance claim forms. It doesn't seem right that I must fill out my company disability insurance claim forms and mail them for someone who is not even an employee of mine any more. She is claiming that it is the law and that she has a right to file a claim under my insurance policy since she claims that she had become disabled while employed by me. I know she was injured in a car accident a while ago before she was an employee and has suffered from problems resulting from the accident (and is awaiting a large settlement). Apparently, she has a doctor's note confirming the disability. But, what is my responsibility in all of this?
disability and nursing home insurance? I am 41 and in good health. Should I purchase nursing home and/or disability insurance? My employer does not provide either of these insurance products; and I am starting to gather information about them. Please provide me as much information as possible. I would appreciate it. Thank you.
Guardian disability insurance questions? Is this a good policy? My broker says it's better than Aflac because it's non-cancellable and lasts until I'm 65 should I need it. He said that as a white-collar professional, long-term disability ins is important for me which I can understand since I need to protect my income. He gave me a health questionnaire to fill out. I'm not totally comfortable filling it out - is it standard to fill one out and do a physical exam and bloodwork like they want? If I take this policy, does this long-term disability ins totally replace Aflac (I have a 6 month policy through my employer). Does it make a difference that my broker is a proponent of the Lifetime Economic Acceleration Process (LEAP), which I think is hooey (I know LEAP is a subsidiary of Guardan)? Aside from that his description of Guardian disability insurance makes it seem like a good choice among several (Met, NY, Std).
Short term disability insurance help? I'm scheduled to have a hip replacement in May. My question is this: is there any type of insurance (i.e.- AFLAC) that can help with some of the medical expenses that I will incur or even help with the lost income? I've heard of short term disability insurance but am not familiar with the particulars. Please note: I have a husband who has a decent job and am not looking for government assistance. Any help is appreciated. I have very good medical insurance that will cover the majority of the surgery, etc. I would just like to minimize the out of pocket expenses. My best friend did something similar when she was pregnant to cover her maternity leave so I know it's possible and definitely not insurance fraud. It's not available through my employer (I work for the state). I have a flexible spending account which will help and about a month of sick leave. I just want to make sure that I haven't missed anything that might help. Look, I'm not trying to take advantage of anything or screw any policy holders out of money. I certainly didn't mean to incite such anger. I'm just wondering if there might be a help meet out there. It's a perfectly logical, legitimate question. I asked for help, not to be attacked. Geez.
State Disability Insurance in California? I was laid off in December (company went under) and in March I got pregnant. I have not found a permanent job and at this point am not going to try - who's going to hire a pregnant woman, right? I am receiving unemployment which will be running out in a few weeks and I'm thinking about working for a temp agency until the baby is born to bring in some money. Does anyone know if I am working temp can I collect State Disability Insurance once the doctor tells me no more working? I'm really pissed...worked all those years and now I may not be able to collect through no fault of my own. Any help is appreciated. I think if I'm not working at all I can't collect but not sure. Thanks.
Disability Protection Insurance and Death? Thanks to those of you who answered before. Now more detailed for you. My father had 150 going to a Paul Revere Life insurance every month for a very long time. Apparently Paul Rever is a disability insurance and my mom says she doesn't think we get any of that money back...he was never disabled and died before he was retired age..so is all that money simply void or does anything happen with it??
Aflac short term disability insurance coverage pre-existing conditions? I have Aflac short term disability insurance coverage. My policy was effective as of 1/1/08, I had a foot surgery in 7/2005, I haven't seen a doctor regarding my foot since then. I might need another surgery on the same foot, not as big, but a touch up. I'm going to the doctor next week(4/2008). Will I get paid S/T Disability if I have a surgery in May? Does anyone have experiance with pre-existing conditions. The Aflac policy is confusing, and I want to make sure I will be covered.
I need someone who is familiar with disability insurance. I have been on disability for just over 2? years. I have been on ss disability, my former employer's disability policy, & my own disability policy. August 25 will be the last payment from my former employer's disability company. I can't meet my expenses without that income so I called my insurance company to find out if my benefits would be affected if I found a part-time job. I still have three years on my "own occupation." She said I would probably have to be re-evaluated. The only test I had done was a neurological-psychological exam two years ago. That would be the only way to re-evaluate me and the test showed I had permanent brain damage and my doctors have told me I can't be a legal secretary anymore, I can't work under a lot of stress, and I can't multi-task. I have cognitive problems that affect my ability to process what I hear to hard copy. Nothing is going to change that. Today I received a request for my '06 tax returns and two releases for my psychiatrist and therapist for their records. Any advice?
Question about Disability Insurance.? I fell at work and havent been able to go back to work the doctore released me on light duty but my employer doesnt have light duty work for me. I was thinking on using my disability insurance since Its been more than a month that I dont get a pay check. And I am fighting cuz they say that my accident is not work related. I am in a very hard situation.
Maternity leave- short term disability insurance? Is there a private company that offers short-term disability pay? I am not pregnant, but I plan on getting pregnant within the next year. My employer does not offer short-term disability, and the only company I have found that offers STD coverage is Aflac. With Aflac, it HAS to go through the employer, and my employer said no. Does anyone know of any way to get private coverage through any insurance company for maternity leave if your boss is a douchebag?
what if a insurance company stops paying your disability coverage on your home and it goes intoi power of sale I was forced to move out of my home, I informed my bank that my motorcycle insurance company was delaying my income replacement benefits. I shut off my utilities, and moved in with my parents, until I could return to work and afford to live at my home. I purchased My disability insurance from the bank that held my mortgage. I had payed on my mortgage flawlessly until the accident. I had given the bank my new contact phone number which i talked to them with before. I went for surgery on april 1st. they stopped paying my mortgage on april 23rd, 4 months after they started. They sent me a letter in march explaining that they would pay my mortgage directly so I would not see payments coming out of my account. I returned to work in September. I informed the bank to stop payments as I was back to work, they informed me that my house was in power of sale. They had changed my locks and locked me out. I called the Insurance company, they back payed my payments can I sue I had to pay 7500 in fee

Short term disability insurance? How many of you had short term disability insurance when you went on maternity leave? Is it worth it? Is it expensive? Does the federal government offer it in their benefits? How long before you go on maternity leave do you need to enroll in it? Sorry I have so many questions. I just got engaged and don't plan on starting a family for another couple of years. I know a lot of people here who are pregnant (I think there's something in the water here) and was just wondering what people do for money while they're out for so long. I haven't been working at my current job for very long (it'll be a year this March), so I'll probably only have about a month or two of sick and personal leave when the time comes. Or did you just save up money beforehand?
How much life insurance should I have and is it smart to have aditional disability insurance .? i work, my husband is disable.I have 2 term life insurance, 1 whole life, and home insurance to pay off my mortgage in case I died. i also paid extra to get disability in addition to my work's disablility insurance. Total payment is about $450 a month. is this too much insurance to pay. i wanted my children and husband to be cared for when i pass. also, my husband has a 403 b from his previous work that i am not sure if i should roll it over to IRA so that it could earn more money. but if i just left if alone, i could get money out of it if i needed it without paying a penalty. Where the money sits now, it is not earning any interest at all or very little every month. can you give me advice?
short time disability insurance? My husband owns his own business and he is the only employee. What would be an inexpensive short term disability insurance for us to purchase?
health insurance, disability, and grad school? Hey everybody I have a question. I have quadriplegic cerebral palsy and am currently living at home and on my parent’s health insurance. However in June I plan to move out for grad school. Due to my disability getting my own insurance will be really expensive. I really want to be able to continue to be covered on my parent’s plan. Does anyone know about this? We have a call in to our company but I thought I would ask here too. Also does applying for SSDI affect this in any way? Thanks Eva
short-term disability income insurance, question about premiuim? I pay for my short-term through work which covers me for 6 months in the event of a disability but could get additional months coverage to compliment my long-term policy which kicks in after 6 months. Does the premium you pay for a Short-Term group plan cost more if you choose a plan when applying for coverage with a longer duration of coverage, since the insurance company would be taking a greater financial risk having to pay you for additional months. Say you got the plan with with 12 months coverage as opposed to only 6 months would that mean in the event of a disability that lasts atleast a year the insurance company would be paying your income for a much longer duration of time (6 more months) thus requiring a higher premium due to the added financial risk they are taking due to length of payments (12 months)?
Long Term Disability - Life Insurance? If you were no longer able to work and went on short and then long term disability from your job and then you die, is your family still eligible for life insurance that you had through your employer?
