Short Term Disability Insurance Knowledge Base
how much does short term disability insurance cost? what are the premiums, if you have short term disability insurance on your own, to supplement an employer's plan or just to help out with bills if you're termporarily disabled? my last company paid 100% of short term - my new company only covers 60%. I had thought if you had a private policy (yes, they are available), that it would cover the 40% not covered. i have both std & ltd with my company, i don't need it right now, was just checking. thanks
What are the reasons to get both Short-term and long-term disability income insurance? I'm thoroughly confused as usual. But, if you have the option to get both short and long term disability insurance why would you? Does the short term cover things the long term doesn't? Doesn't long term cover the short term period as well anyway? Or do you have to have both to be covered in the immediate future and long term??? Why does everything have to be so complicated why cant there just be one kind of disability insurance its soo annoying....Which one would you get or would you get both???? arrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggg. I'm only 28 so don't know if thats a factor, in relatively good health...but in a profession that can be dangerous. Mental health field, direct care. What about individual policies, should I consider paying outside of the company if they dont offer both of these..... thank you for any assistance
Maternity leave- short term disability insurance? Is there a private company that offers short-term disability pay? I am not pregnant, but I plan on getting pregnant within the next year. My employer does not offer short-term disability, and the only company I have found that offers STD coverage is Aflac. With Aflac, it HAS to go through the employer, and my employer said no. Does anyone know of any way to get private coverage through any insurance company for maternity leave if your boss is a douchebag?
Short term disability insurance help? I'm scheduled to have a hip replacement in May. My question is this: is there any type of insurance (i.e.- AFLAC) that can help with some of the medical expenses that I will incur or even help with the lost income? I've heard of short term disability insurance but am not familiar with the particulars. Please note: I have a husband who has a decent job and am not looking for government assistance. Any help is appreciated. I have very good medical insurance that will cover the majority of the surgery, etc. I would just like to minimize the out of pocket expenses. My best friend did something similar when she was pregnant to cover her maternity leave so I know it's possible and definitely not insurance fraud. It's not available through my employer (I work for the state). I have a flexible spending account which will help and about a month of sick leave. I just want to make sure that I haven't missed anything that might help. Look, I'm not trying to take advantage of anything or screw any policy holders out of money. I certainly didn't mean to incite such anger. I'm just wondering if there might be a help meet out there. It's a perfectly logical, legitimate question. I asked for help, not to be attacked. Geez.
Short term disability insurance? How many of you had short term disability insurance when you went on maternity leave? Is it worth it? Is it expensive? Does the federal government offer it in their benefits? How long before you go on maternity leave do you need to enroll in it? Sorry I have so many questions. I just got engaged and don't plan on starting a family for another couple of years. I know a lot of people here who are pregnant (I think there's something in the water here) and was just wondering what people do for money while they're out for so long. I haven't been working at my current job for very long (it'll be a year this March), so I'll probably only have about a month or two of sick and personal leave when the time comes. Or did you just save up money beforehand?
How long can u be on Short Term Disability in IL & still get paid? I have short term disability insurance at work, I have been employeed there for 1 1/2 yrs. How many months can you be off of work & still get paid through your short term disability insurance? What % of your income does short term disability pay (before or after taxes)?
short-term disability income insurance, question about premiuim? I pay for my short-term through work which covers me for 6 months in the event of a disability but could get additional months coverage to compliment my long-term policy which kicks in after 6 months. Does the premium you pay for a Short-Term group plan cost more if you choose a plan when applying for coverage with a longer duration of coverage, since the insurance company would be taking a greater financial risk having to pay you for additional months. Say you got the plan with with 12 months coverage as opposed to only 6 months would that mean in the event of a disability that lasts atleast a year the insurance company would be paying your income for a much longer duration of time (6 more months) thus requiring a higher premium due to the added financial risk they are taking due to length of payments (12 months)?
Maternity Leave=Short Term Disability Insurance!? Hi, I am a teacher and my union says that maternity leave is between my doctor and me. My doctor says her hands are tied and she can only allow 6 weeks after the baby's birth. (8 if I have a c-section). How can I get her to give me more "maternity leave"? I am very slow to heal and I want to collect STD insurance as long as I can. Is that evil? Thoughts and opinions and helpful suggestions please!
Can I get short term disability insurance to pay my mortgage if I have to have knee replacement surgery? My doctor says I need knee replacement surgery and I will be out of work at least 3-4 months in rehab. Is there any type of insurance I can get to cover my mortgage payments. I have insurance that covers my credit card payments but not insurance for mortgage. My job will pay me part of my salary while I am out, but it won't cover all my expenses. I have little to nothing in savings. If I can get this insurance how would I get a quote and how long would it need to be in effect before I can collect from it? Estimated, how much would it cost per month for the coverage? Thanks Zajjo for the link. I will go there and look right now. Jo Mo, when is enrollment season? My job is as a plant manager. I walk around 90% of the time. I need both knees replaced. Thanks for your post!
Does anyone in GA know of any unemployment/short-term disability insurance for high-risk pregnancies? I am 24 weeks pregnant with my second child and because of some complications and the fact that my first child was born premature, I am now considered to be high risk. I work full-time right now, but I am not going to be able to work much longer because I am supposed to stay off my feet per the doctor's orders. I think I have heard of programs or insurance for situations like this somewhere, but from reading on the state's department of labor website, it does not seem like I qualify for unemployment insurance because I am leaving my job by my choice. Has anyone been in this situation before? Is there any program or service or insurance that might work for me? It is just not an option for my family right now to not have some sort of second income coming in. I really appreciate any advice you guys may have. I have always worked full-time and had money coming in, and this has me scared! BTW- The company I have worked for for the past year only has 8 employees (so no FMLA)
I filed my California long term disability insurance claim 40 days too late and it was denied. Can you help? I am covered by a short term disability policy by my employer. Prior to my disability, I asked my HR department what I needed to do. I was told that my short term policy would kick in automatically and all I would need to do was fill out those forms once they were sent to me. I filled out the forms and received confirmation that my short term insurance had been activated. About 1 month after my disability, I received a reduced paycheck. When I inquired at work, I was told that I should have filed for long term disability along with the short term disability. I have since filed for long term disability but it was denied because I submitted my claim more than 40 days after the first day of disability. I know I can appeal. Has anyone else gone through this and was your appeal successful? Did you have to do anything out of the ordinary to win your appeal? Advising me to check with the labor board or my HR department isn't the help I am looking for. What I am looking for - Have you ever had to appeal a denied disability claim and did you learn something in the process that would help make the process go smoothly for someone in my situation. If I were answering your questions, I would put some real thought behind my answers!
I reappled for long term & short term insurance at work and once again was denied. Is this LEGAL? A few days ago, I received my letter denying me long term & short term insurance coverage. The letter stated, "As you know, the insurance you are applying for is medically evaluated and certain health standards must be met to be eligible for enrollment. Another review has been made of the insurability applications you completed. Based on your condition of insulin dependant diabetes diagnosed 1989, it has been determined that our original decision to deny Short and Long Term Disability insurance coverage cannot be changed. Other pertinent health history includes high blood pressure and acid reflux." The letter goes on to state I have 90 days to appeal this decision. I must say I HAD this insurance and dropped it shortly after starting at The State of Texas. Does this mean I will never be eligible or should I fight this with an appeal? I can brag and say I don't call in sick (very often) and do a great job at work. I work 13 hour days and have a 2 year old son!!!!!!!!!
AFLAC Short Term Disability (Maternity) Insurance? I am starting a new job in May and getting married in October. My new employer offers short-term disability through AFLAC but no maternity leave. We are planning to start a family in 2-3 years (1.5-2 years after marriage). Although we will be able to save money to cover salary lost during maternity leave, I wonder if it is worth it to sign up for AFLAC as well. Should I be signing up so soon? I believe there is generally a twelve month period before STD benefits can be recovered. Has anyone had experience with this? How did you feel about AFLAC STD for maternity leave?
Short term disablity insurance? does anyone know how or where to get short term disability insurance individually? I am in NE Tennessee if you know anywhere close to here. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Short & Long Term Disability Insurance? If someone is a not able to qualify for STD or LTD insurance. Are there any other options?. My friend has MS. She was just diagnosed. What can she do? Is there any options or insurance for her to purchase? She is self-employed. So, it's not like she's got group coverage. She doesn't want to have to loose everything to get on Medicaid to deal with her health issues.
short term disability/ maternity leave not on insurance!!!!!? i am due in january,i have insurance(humana) through work, but it does not cover short term disability or maternity leave, is there anything i can do to get paid while on leave? yeah i am very aware that it is their right to not pay me. I cannot afford to just leave and find another employer, who would prob not get me insurance until after 90 days...not happening. I was just wondering if perhaps there was something out there that might help in this kind of situation. Thanks
Filed for pregnancy short term disability. After checking w/ insurance company many times due to no response,? I am now being told I had to have had the policy for 10 months. I have requested several times for explanation of my beneftis which I have not received yet in the mail. I keep getting different stories, either my case is preexisting ( because I picked up health/std insurance in Jan because my employer switced insurance companies and I was already pregnant) and now the have to have insurance 10 months now. I still don't have a denial letter from them yet. I applied March 4 for hypertension/severe back pain from job duties and delivered on April 12. What should I do next. First time having STD insurance. If I would have known I would not receive payment, I would not have stayed out of work for 6 weeks postpartum either. HELP.
Is Iritis considered a short-term disability? I'm suffering from Iritis in my right eye, which has blurred my vision and I'm unable to work continuously in front of a computer screen. I'm trying to obtain a short-term disability leave through my employer's insurance. Do you know if insurance companies will consider Iritis as a short-term disability? My doctor is skeptical about it...
Aflac short term disability insurance coverage pre-existing conditions? I have Aflac short term disability insurance coverage. My policy was effective as of 1/1/08, I had a foot surgery in 7/2005, I haven't seen a doctor regarding my foot since then. I might need another surgery on the same foot, not as big, but a touch up. I'm going to the doctor next week(4/2008). Will I get paid S/T Disability if I have a surgery in May? Does anyone have experiance with pre-existing conditions. The Aflac policy is confusing, and I want to make sure I will be covered.
How can I apply for short term disability before I give birth? I'm 38 weeks pregnant right now but I'm very uncomfortable at work. So, I'm wondering how I can apply for short term disability now instead of waiting until the baby is born. What would my doctor have to tell the insurance company (Metlife) for them to accept the claim?
Can I join the Short term disability plan at work while pregnant? I started working in feburary and will not be allowed to go on my works insurance plans untill august (they have a 6 month wait) At that time I will be about 7 months pregnant. Is it possible to join thier Short Term Disability plan then? Or will they not let me, since I am already pregnant? I live in New York.
Anyone know of an insurance company you can get disability insurance through if already have a disability? If you already have a pre-existing condition (a disability), most insurance companies don't seem to allow you to get short or long term disability insurance. Are there any companies that will allow you to get short or long term disability anyway, with the exclusion that if you become disabled due to your disability it won't cover it, but if you become disabled some other way (like an accident or something) then you would be covered? I know they call these "riders" but can't find a company willing to do this. Looking for a company that will. Anyone know of any?
Is there "secret" disability insurance with utility companies? I am on Short term disability for a pregnancy complication. Someone told me that you pay for disability insurance with your utilities, but that they don't tell you that you are paying it. Is this true? What about cell phone companies? Just curious - if I have been paying for it within my bill then I want to use it! Thanks!
Paying taxes on short term disability payments? My husband recieved about $1300.00 short term disability payments while out after surgery. we got the 1099 form that was reported to IRS. While reading thru instructions on this It says that if HE pays for the insurance-he doesn't have to count it as income. Does anybody know anything about this
Can an hourly employee be terminated for spending 15 days in jail while on FMLA disability? My employee was arrested on a Thursday night for attempting to get narcotics with a forged prescription. The employee went to the doctor Friday and got a 2 month FMLA leave supposedly related to "stress". The employee was receiving short term disability insurance payments. The employee served 15 days in jail while on FMLA / short term disability. I was scammed. Is this grounds for termination?
combining long and short term disability policies or two long term policies etc..? is it true that you cant get over 100% of your salary when you have multiple disability insurance policies from the same or varying companies. anotherwords, you cant take your 100% short term policy and combine it with an overlapping long term policy that covers at 60% and expect to get 160% back in income due to disability per month. It would just be 100%. The same with two different long term policies right? you won't be able to make back more than what your actually monthly income is at 100%.
Long Term Disability Insurance? I have recently been placed off of work for medical reasons and I flied through short term and now that I am on long term they are urging me to apply for SSI. I was told by my employer I am eligible for it till I am 67 but why are they so pushy, they have law offices calling me every day and I tell them no thanks, I don't need your assistance and they take that as I have applied and want to know my application date ect. Why are they so pushy and why is it any of their business, I think if it is a service my employer offered that shoudl be it. I think they offer it, they should pay it and if your eligible for SSI you should be able to collect that too. Why should anyone be short changed just becuase they don't want to pay for it anymore.
W-2 Form for short term disability? I was/still on short term disability for the entire 2007 year. I received W-2 forms from employer (check marked 3rd party sick pay) and the disability insurance. The wage totals do not match. I am not even sure which one I am to use when I file my taxes. Can anyone tell me which one is the right one to use (especially when the wage totals don't match)? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Adding the two W-2 forms together will show that I was paid almost twice the amount I was actually paid. One of the W-2 forms is from my employer. The other W-2 form is from the disability company that sent me my disability check every month. Neither of the W-2 forms state "corrected".
is it legal to fire someone on state approved short term disability? was in outside sales. w/ documented depression (not faked). company kept contacting me about doing paperwork so THEY can say i'm on disability - i "had" to get approval from their insurance company UNUM. my doctors were not as diligent as i wanted them to be and they missed a deadline, so the company said that because i missed this deadline, i was terminated as my leave could not be substantiated by UNUM. (1) should they have even been asking me to do all that ? especially since i WAS ALREADY on state disability? (2) do i have to be considered on disability by the company too? as i understand, it's illegal to get benefits from your company AND the state. had the company been able to "substantiate" my claim for disability, that means that i would've gone to jail - right? thanks in advance
If I am on Short Term Disability with my employer am I still able to work my part-time work-at-home job? I just filed a claim for Short Term Disability benefits with my employer due to a condition that was caused by exposure to toxic mold. While I am waiting for approval from the insurance company handling my Short Term claim can I continue to put in some hours with my part-time work-at-home job to keep money coming in while I wait for this to be approved? And if so, would I be able to do the PT job while I am receiving Short Term benefits? My condition does not allow me to go to work but it does not hinder me from putting in 3 or 4 hours a day while I am home recovering. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. This would not be through the IRS or the US government. The benefits, if approved, would be through a third party insurer. Also, my job does not afford me the ability to bring my work home...believe I would if I could. See my condition leads me to have unpredictable dizzy spells and I need to be able to get to a bed, sofa, etc... when needed.

BTW- The company I have worked for for the past year only has 8 employees (so no FMLA) Regarding the Medicaid answers, thank you, but I am confused, isn't Medicaid just for medical insurance? I guess my question was not really clear, I am now covered for medical insurance, I need something that will help supplement/replace my income while I am unable to work. Does Medicaid have a program like that? Thanks again!
Long Term Disability - Life Insurance? If you were no longer able to work and went on short and then long term disability from your job and then you die, is your family still eligible for life insurance that you had through your employer?
short term disability through my employer and pregnant.? when i first applied for my insurance i did not apply for short term disability. i got pregnant. i have already put in my leave. i am 8 months pregnant and recently found out that my inusrance was cancelled through my job, because somebody forgot to put my name on a list. they have renrolled me and i have opted for short term disability this time. my previous pay check did not reflect that the insurance was taking out. i brought this attention to my job and they said i will have to be reinstated. i may have this baby at any time. if my baby comes before this gets straightened out, what are my rights? if the insurance goes through will i get paid for my maternity leave? thank you for your answers.
Short term disabililty insurance? I just have a major surgery and I am hospitalized. My surgeon said I will be out of work from 12/24/07 to 3/24/08. I have balance of 29 days full illness pay, so I think my disability insurance should kick in on 2/5/08. I am filling out the form DE2501, they required me to mail the form no later than 49 days after the first day I became diabled, so I should mail out the asap, or I will lose the benefit. How do they know I want my claim to start on 2/5/08? because I don't want them to disqualify me when they detect that I will be receiving a paycheck at the end of the January. But I cannot mail out my form on February, because it pass the due date..... I am very confused with the EDD's instruction, I read their whole website and I don't find the answer. Please help!!!!!!
What should I do about Short Term Disability? I am out on FMLA and have applied for the Short Term Disability provided by my employee. I sent all the needed information back to the insurance company. OK, so I called the insurance company back to get details regarding my claim and they mentioned that there was a discrepancy between the insurance company and my company. I sent an email to the HR person and she looked into it. She contacted me back and stated that the insurance company did not receive a sent payment and everything would be resolved by the following Tuesday. Lo and behold I called the Insurance Company today and they mentioned that the discrepancy was still there. Again, I sent an email to my company and have not heard back from them. At this point what are my rights? Since the employer is paying for this benefit and nothing is not taken out of my paycheck do I have any rights? If I return to work before this is resolved is the money still owed to me?
Short- Term Disability Insurance Question.? Let's say that your doctor offers 3 months of disability. Do you need to apply for disability insurance? Or is it covered through your employer? What are some websites that can answer my questions?
During open enrollment, std (short term disability) was not shown as an option...? During annual open enrollment, I recieved an employee open enrollment kit, which consisted of 3 pages outlining the various options of coverage. Of those were medical, dental, and vison of course and supplemental benefits, which included accident, critical illness, legal, pet, and identity theft. I showed no options of short or long term disability, and now that I inquire about them, my HR rep is telling me it is too late, and that it was listed inside the enrollment kit. Well, clearly it is not. Does ltd or std fall under accident insurance?? Does my employer have to allow me to enroll in either even if the deadlines have passed since it was never an option to begin with??
Short-Term Disability and FMLA? I was in a car accident at 17 weeks into my pregnancy. I am a high-risk pregnancy to begin with because of 3 prior miscarriages and only 1 live birth. During the accident, something was done to my back --- nerve tests are positive for damage and irritation from the L5-S1 nerve root. I also have every symptom of a herniated disc, but the MRI was negative. The pain is excrutiating. I was placed on bedrest by my neurologist and the OB/GYN agreed that bedrest would be the only way to alleviate the pain and to prevent further possible damage since testing in pregnancy is limited. Now that you have the background --- I was granted FMLA for 12 weeks only? I have not received my disability pay and am now being told that my FMLA will not be extended. Any suggestions? I have been with this company for over 5 years and the director says I will have my job upon return, but the corporate offices and the insurance carrier seems to have different ideas? Constructive comments only please!
How do I go about getting on short term disability through my employer? I was diagnosed with a spinal disease and am trying out various medications. I keep missing work when I go to the doctor and also when I have a flare up of my symptoms. How do I go about getting short term dis. ? Does this qualify? Can they deny me? I've used all of my vacation trying to get my disease in order and it's still not enough. I'm scared they will give me the run around at work. I work for a big workers compensation insurance company anyway...so they should know the right protocol. I'm just unsure of how to get started. I can't take FMLA b/c I have only been there 7 months. I don't want to do it through SS if possible.
Supplemental Insurance? I need some basic info about supplemental Health Insurance (Short-term disability). I'm planning on getting pregnant soon and my isurance at work kinda sucks. I would like to be off for at least 8 weeks with the baby, but still need my income! Any tips, general cost of getting individual insurance for that, etc. I'm pretty clueless about how it works. Thanks!
Short term Disability>? I have a job with health insurance, but I do not have short term disabilty, I was late in enrolling and when I finally did, they denied me. Not because I am pregnant, I never even told them I was. I am due in late january and will have no income for 3-8 weeks. How can I find help? What would you do?
anybody familiar with a "monthly disability rider" attached to a life insurance policy? any catches here sounds too good to be true like knocking out two birds with one stone. Is it as good as short/long term disability income insurance? the way it was explained to me is that it actually works the same way as disability income insurance as it will allow you to deduct from the overall amount of life insurance your covered for by month. For instance, you have 100,000 you get disabled for 4 months, and you take out 2000 a month and end up at the end with a 92,000 policy.
disability insurance percentage of income covered? my long term disability income insurance policy is set at 60% of my salary covering through age 65 I also have a short term policy that covers me until that 180 days is up and the long term kicks in, does this sound sufficient or should I get an life insurance policy with a monthly disability rider which pays an income as well that my insurance agent is trying to sell me to support my long term policy.. I dont make enough income to qualify for any of my insurance agents supplemental long term disability plans to help with the long term plan I have through work thats why he suggested the life insurance with the monthly disability rider
Question about medical insurance/disability if terminal illness involved...? My mother was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer 2 months ago and given approx a year with chemo. Unfortunately, her liver couldn't handle the chemo, and she has been taken off her chemo. She had only short-term disability through her job, which she paid extra for. That short-term disability expires January 15. She has no long-term. Not good news. Her salary isn't what concerns me. She has medical insurance through her place of employment and also two different life insurance policies. One of the policies is furnished by her job. It equals to the amount of one year of her salary. The other, is one she paid extra for, through the same company as her medical insurance...I believe. My question is...if her doctor continues to approve her time away from work...which he said he would as long as her cancer is inoperable, will she continue to be able to receive her benefits from her job(medical insurance, life insurance, ect...)?
Filed maternity claim with short term disability. Now 2 months and they are trying to deny .? Job switched insurance company in Jan. due to rate increase. I was already pregnant and had disability with previous company. I sent in claim in March. Recvd letter in April asking for physician form to be completely filled out. Sent in completed form with maternity claim. After continuously calling to inquire, getting different stories, now they say they don't pay for preexisting conditions. They paid for my pregnancy health care though. Do you have to have the disabiliity insurance for a certain amount of time for them to pay before claiming? I have asked for insurance booklets explaining benefits since January and have not received that either. What can I do. Been out of work since March 4 for hypertension/back pain before birth on April 12. Thanks
When should a person file for disability if he is missing too many days from work due to illness.? I have short term and long term disability insurance at work. I have also used up fmla and went on supplemental medical leave. I have since gone back to work and accumulated additional fmla, but still my attendance is not what it should be. my question is, instead of geting fired for poor attendance and losing my insurance, and job, when should i file for disability insurance which i have been paying for for sixteen years. It would be less than my earned income but would be better than nothing and no other employer would pay what i could draw on disability.
disability insurance question? im in what you could call a temporary position even though I'm getting 43 hrs a week, still part-time as the company hasn't switched my status to full time and most likely wont change it while in this position. Im only filling in for someone who is absent due to pregnancy. I make a measly 10 bucks an hr and as I said the position is temporary and sooner or later I should be moving into a real position that has a salary compatible with someone with a masters degree which may or may not be with the same company. So my reasoning is that I should just wait until I have a full-time position with stability and good income before I worry about getting short and/or long term disability income insurance...Does that reasoning make sense to others or should i get disability anyway even though my salary is bound to change probably within no later than 3 or 4 months....?? oh by the way as a part-time employee I would have to also purchase the disability income insurance outside of the company since it isnt offered for parttime employees. im 28 years old im healthy and have a good deal of savings wouldnt social security or whatever governmental or state funding care for my needs if I became disabled anyway since im only making 10 bucks an hr I wouldnt see it being much of a stretch what sort of requirements are there for a person to get help from the government in the case of a disability?
What is a global impairment concerning disability? I had longterm disability insurance at work. I was out on short term disability for 13 weeks and my benefits ran out; however, i also had longterm benefits that should have covered the additional time off. They turned down my claim because i didn't have a global impairment. I was supposed to have coverage if i couldn't perform my normal job, not have to suffer a total disability to collect. I had to go back to work, still drugged up, and not at my regular job. What's the deal with these insurance idiots, I payed premiums for 16 years, but they are not keeping their end of the contract.I never heard of a global impairment.
If the terms of a "pay or quit" notice are met in the said time frame, can the landlord still seek eviction? I recently became very ill and was off of work for a month. In that time I have had difficulty paying my bills. I do have short term disability insurance but it does not pay out much ($100.00 a week). My amount due is in the neighborhood of a $1000.00 and the time frame before legal action begins is 30 days. I have just returned to work and with my insurance check as well as my weekly wages I will definitely be able to pay the whole amount by the said time frame. My biggest question here is: would I still face eviction even if I meet the demands of the notice? I would prefer this to be answered by someone who has experience or education in similar situations.

Quitting your job while on disability.? I am asking for a friend, as they say! I actually am. She has been of work for about 2 months and is being paid short term disability through her insurance policy at work. A friend of hers told her she may be forced to pay back any wages she received if she quits. Her doctors have not released her to go back to work after a surgery she had, so she has a legitimate excuse. Any ideas of the consequences, if any??
