How much monthly benefit do you need when applying for a disability income insurance? I was told as an example, if I gross $6000. Take 80% of that and subtract $2100 to get $2700. The $2100 is the monthly disability benefits I would get from my state (NJ). True?
If disability is paid by an Insurance Co. can individual still seek part-time work without loosing benefits? Disability payments are paid by MY insurance co. not by the state. Can I get a part-time job that pays about $150.00 weekly without losing my short-term disability benefit? My state is CO.
What disability programs/insurance can I get in on? I'm 20 and I have crohn's disease. I was also diagnosed with it a long time ago. Which is listed as a disabling disease. In the upcoming years, i'll be falling off my parent's insurance. Yet I wont be out of college, or be making enough to cover my medicines. Which without insurance would cost me about 1,000 a month for my three perscriptions. I was wondering what kind of disability benefits or programs I could get. I was diagnosed with crohn's while i was a child. I know i can't get social security because, they wont give partial disability. I really don't want to go under as fully disabled otherwise going to college is kinda pointless. I just want to get a little help paying for my medicine, specialist visits as well as those delightful procedures i'm forced to endure annually. Anyone have any ideas?
can i buy a house with ssi and social security disability benefits? i have a decent credit, plus i receive $650 monthly from ssi and social security disability insurance.....can i buy a house in florida with this income and decent credit, i do not own any money, single and no kids.........
If after-tax LTD disability benefit is tax-free, how can employer assess tax on offsets like the CA VDI? I am approved for LTD. According to the cafeteria plan I signed up for, the disability insurance (LTD) benefit should be 60% of my annual salary. Since the employee deductions for the insurance were paid by me with after- tax dollars, the benefit should be tax-free (that is, non-taxable). However, now my employer is offsetting a CA VDI short-term disability benefit against it to the tune of 55% of annual salary for the next year and fully taxing (federal, state, and Social Security) that benefit. I also had to apply for Social Security disability. If I am approved for that, the benefit will be taxed. So my 60% "non-taxable" benefit is shrinking to about 40%. This seems very wrong to me. Any advice? Thank you.
Is W-2 Box14 entry for CASDI (California State Disability Insurance)a valid claim on Form1040 Sched A Line5? Instructions for Line5 say to include "Mandatory contributions made to California, New Jersey, or New York Nonoccupational Disability Benefit Fund, Rhode Island Temporary Disability Benefit Fund, or Washington State Supplemental Workmen's Compensation Fund" which seems vague at best. I have scoured the web for information addressing this question. CASDI is certainly mandatory.
I have an S-Corp with employees, am I eligible for State Disability benefits? I am not an employee of my corp. I own an s-corp with 4 non-exempt employees. But I am not an employee, I am only a 100% share holder and owner of the business. I do not take any salary. Recently I had a baby. Am I eligible for state disablity insurance benefits and FMLA?
Do you have to qualify for Disability Benefits in order to get on an assisted living program? I dont qualify for Disability as of right now, but i should this fall. I need to move out of my parent's house, and give them a break. Right now, they are the ones who have to take me everywhere. And I only ask to go places I need to go. And its still too much on them. Since my stepfather works away, he's not usually here to help my mom in taking me to the doctor. The reason I dont qualify is because of my resources. As far as medically, I do qualify. I need my independence. As much of it as I am able to handle. I'm 20 years old right now, and am on my parents insurance until i turn 21 this year. What is involved in the process of getting on an assisted living program? I live in a rural area. No public transportation.

Can you receive social security disability insurance if you work part-time? My stepson started working part-time and receives ssdi because his bio-mom is crazy. Can he still receive benefits? and if the address on his benefits is different from his W-9 will that also cause problems?
IRS tax deductibility of SDI, State Disability Insurance, and VDI, Voluntary Disability Insurance? Two questions: 1) Many companies require employees to pay State Disability Insurance, SDI, while other require Voluntary Disability Insurance, VDI. It appears that SDI payments are tax deductible on the Federal return but VDI are not. Why is this? 2) Are benefits paid under each of these plans taxable or non taxable? thanks

Can someone explain this to me?? on Disability Income Insurance? "guaranteed Renewable". When premiums are changed by "class"....what does that mean? The rates aren't changed on an individual basis, but for all policy holders? Is there a cap on how much the premiums can increase? Is there a rider available for Total Disability Benefit after 24 months if I can't perform the duties of my own occupation?
should i get life insurance & disability ? im 17, i think my mom wants me to get life insurance or something to use and take advantage of me because it would come cheap, so when something happens to her or any of my family members, they can probably use the insurance i have for their own benefits. Does this work?? and about the disability thing, well im planning to get surgery for my feet so i'll be in a wheelchair for a bit, is this reasonable? now i feel a bit sick :x ....
Returning to work after California State Disability Insurance ends...? My SDI ends in 2 weeks. My boss continued to pay me for 3 weeks after I became ill. I did not ask for this. I explained to her that I did not need the money since I was applying for disability benefits and I am fortunate enough to have an emergency savings account to support myself. Now she wants me to return to work when she's ready since she has to figure out MY schedule after 10 years of service (I have always worked an 8 hr shift 5 days a week) AND the schedule of a “temp” she wants to keep, and my 2 co-workers. I know by staying home an additional 3 weeks it would stop any kind of payback to her which makes since. Can any of this jeopardize my employment? What are my rights?
Do I need to pay personal income tax? I have been receiving a monthly disability income from my private disability insurance company, is this taxable? I know for a fact that the social security disability income (SSDI) that I have been receiving is not taxable because the amount is not sufficient to file a tax return, but I am not sure about the private disability insurance benefits. I live in California. If you pay the entire cost of a health or accident insurance plan, do not include any amounts you receive for your disability as income on your tax return.
i am 41 and am receiving disability, from my government, and health insurance,? you may be entitled too. do you have a disability? mental or physical? apply to social security, you can work some and earn money and collect disability benefits if eligible. if your disabled and have no job, they can help you find one. any questions/comments?
I need someone who is familiar with disability insurance. I have been on disability for just over 2? years. I have been on ss disability, my former employer's disability policy, & my own disability policy. August 25 will be the last payment from my former employer's disability company. I can't meet my expenses without that income so I called my insurance company to find out if my benefits would be affected if I found a part-time job. I still have three years on my "own occupation." She said I would probably have to be re-evaluated. The only test I had done was a neurological-psychological exam two years ago. That would be the only way to re-evaluate me and the test showed I had permanent brain damage and my doctors have told me I can't be a legal secretary anymore, I can't work under a lot of stress, and I can't multi-task. I have cognitive problems that affect my ability to process what I hear to hard copy. Nothing is going to change that. Today I received a request for my '06 tax returns and two releases for my psychiatrist and therapist for their records. Any advice?

Employeer forces me to buy life/disability/dental insurance? I work for a private non-profit in WI. Employee manual says benefits available but we are required to pay in full for life/short-term disability/dental. Is this legal?
What is a global impairment concerning disability? I had longterm disability insurance at work. I was out on short term disability for 13 weeks and my benefits ran out; however, i also had longterm benefits that should have covered the additional time off. They turned down my claim because i didn't have a global impairment. I was supposed to have coverage if i couldn't perform my normal job, not have to suffer a total disability to collect. I had to go back to work, still drugged up, and not at my regular job. What's the deal with these insurance idiots, I payed premiums for 16 years, but they are not keeping their end of the contract.I never heard of a global impairment.
i believe i have emphasema. am i entitled to disability benefits? i was a dry wall finisher for about 30 yrs. now i am unable to do any physical labor because of breathing difficulties.i also suffered a heart attack 6 yrs. ago.presently i am unemployed and have no income.i could probably get a retail job but i doubt it would pay enough to survive on. i have no medical insurance either.
Questions about disability benefits? I have been missing an exceptional amount of work due to being diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and I found out that my job is cutting everyone's benefits the end of November. Due to my health problems (I also have insulin dependant diabetes) I need health insurance and cannot live without it. I have tried to get on Medicaid in the past and was told that I needed to be on disability in order to get it. This was before I had the psos. I have been in extreme pain due to my psos and unable to go to work for 3 weeks now and I have tried various pain medicines and even had surgery but I'm still experiencing problems. Does anyone know what steps I should take to get on disability? I cannot go without an income, I have bills to pay and due to my medical conditions it is imperitive that I have Health insurance! Also I am 26 and live in Ohio.
How much do you pay monthly for insurance benefits? I have insurance through work, but I was wondering how much people payed out of pocket for additional coverage like disability, additional life, dental, etc?
Is it legal for a claim adjuster (disability) to terminate my benefits if I do not agree to meet him at home? I understand the need to be assessed by the company (private insurance company in Ontario, Canada) and am willing to meet but not at my home. What are my legal options?
HELP!!! MY brother needs to find out if he can get any short term disability/unemployment benefits in TX? My brother, bless his idiotic self, Jumped off a balcony and has broken his back and shattered the bones in his foot. After getting permanent disability benefits from your insurance company, does anyone have the follwoing infor? 1) Do you still have to see a doctor(s) or what are restrictions from your insurance company 2) Do you still have to give some sort of report to your insurance company 3) What problem you can face from your insurance company even you are approved for permanent disability Thanks
I believe I would qualify for Social Security disability benefits but, if I understand correctly,? according to the SSA.gov site, I would be turned down because I didn't apply for benefits within the specified amount of time. In a nutshell, I am unable to work due to anxiety and depression. The condition became apparent in 2000, but luckily my husband's income allowed me to no longer work. Now, however, I'm divorced (his decision) and he'll only be paying my medical insurance premiums until April 1, 2008. I don't get enough alimony to be able to afford individual medical insurance through MHIP (Missouri Health Ins. Pool) because of my pre-existing conditions. So I guess my question is that because I didn't "take advantage" of the government when I first could have, is it true that it's too late for me to try to qualify for SSD benefits? FYI - I did work full-time from 1982-2000. Thanks, in advance.
Social Security Disability Insurance? I've already had three initial filings with SSA this time I'm going to appeal. Can anyone who has won benefits offer advice? Also what are some other programs that can help if I my appeal is denied?
what if a insurance company stops paying your disability coverage on your home and it goes intoi power of sale I was forced to move out of my home, I informed my bank that my motorcycle insurance company was delaying my income replacement benefits. I shut off my utilities, and moved in with my parents, until I could return to work and afford to live at my home. I purchased My disability insurance from the bank that held my mortgage. I had payed on my mortgage flawlessly until the accident. I had given the bank my new contact phone number which i talked to them with before. I went for surgery on april 1st. they stopped paying my mortgage on april 23rd, 4 months after they started. They sent me a letter in march explaining that they would pay my mortgage directly so I would not see payments coming out of my account. I returned to work in September. I informed the bank to stop payments as I was back to work, they informed me that my house was in power of sale. They had changed my locks and locked me out. I called the Insurance company, they back payed my payments can I sue I had to pay 7500 in fee
Short term disability insurance? How many of you had short term disability insurance when you went on maternity leave? Is it worth it? Is it expensive? Does the federal government offer it in their benefits? How long before you go on maternity leave do you need to enroll in it? Sorry I have so many questions. I just got engaged and don't plan on starting a family for another couple of years. I know a lot of people here who are pregnant (I think there's something in the water here) and was just wondering what people do for money while they're out for so long. I haven't been working at my current job for very long (it'll be a year this March), so I'll probably only have about a month or two of sick and personal leave when the time comes. Or did you just save up money beforehand?

Question about medical insurance/disability if terminal illness involved...? My mother was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer 2 months ago and given approx a year with chemo. Unfortunately, her liver couldn't handle the chemo, and she has been taken off her chemo. She had only short-term disability through her job, which she paid extra for. That short-term disability expires January 15. She has no long-term. Not good news. Her salary isn't what concerns me. She has medical insurance through her place of employment and also two different life insurance policies. One of the policies is furnished by her job. It equals to the amount of one year of her salary. The other, is one she paid extra for, through the same company as her medical insurance...I believe. My question is...if her doctor continues to approve her time away from work...which he said he would as long as her cancer is inoperable, will she continue to be able to receive her benefits from her job(medical insurance, life insurance, ect...)?
NJ Temporary disability insurance? This has nothing to do with SSDI. Nj has short term disability insurance for up to 6 months. I am trying to find out if there is a provision to work part time ($100/wk) and still get benefits--from what I heard it is all or nothing... I actually do better when I am working, but just had a major setback today. I can still work a couple half days......and I am afraid if I stop providing service to one of my clients he will fall through the cracks--as it is the other socalled professionals treat him like he is an cognitively impaired--yet he does have age appropriate cognitive skills--it is a 5 year old who has been sight reading at least a year--but the others insist he only knows a few letters--he knew most letters 2 years ago--they think he only recognizes a few numbers--when he can actually count at least to 10--and recognize the numbers and put them in order... it is 11 o cock at night--I can't call now--and I am worried--not to mention--It may take days to actually get somebody on the phone that will pay attention i can't hobble down to the office--they don't let you--its done through the mail--maybe I can try a singing telegram...that might stimulate their brain cells...
I am still on disability and my employer send me a letter that I am terminated and my benefits will be on cobr Can a company terminate you while you are on disability and demand that you pay your insurance premiums and cancel your insurance. All this while I am disabled.
AFLAC Short Term Disability (Maternity) Insurance? I am starting a new job in May and getting married in October. My new employer offers short-term disability through AFLAC but no maternity leave. We are planning to start a family in 2-3 years (1.5-2 years after marriage). Although we will be able to save money to cover salary lost during maternity leave, I wonder if it is worth it to sign up for AFLAC as well. Should I be signing up so soon? I believe there is generally a twelve month period before STD benefits can be recovered. Has anyone had experience with this? How did you feel about AFLAC STD for maternity leave?
Here is the answer to a much sough question filing with SSI? Social Security Benefits Because total income is limited for persons collecting Supplemental Security Income (SSI), it is the rare exception that a person collecting any portion of SSI benefits would owe income taxes. Persons receiving SSI benefits as their only source of income would not be taxed on that benefit. However, some people who get Social Security Disability (SSD), or Social Security retirement, may have to pay income taxes on those benefits based on what other income they may be receiving. This will apply to you only if you have other substantial income in addition to your benefits (for example, wages, self-employment, interest, dividends, pension, taxable disability insurance benefits, and other taxable income that you have to report on your tax return). Rather than provide a separate, lower tax table for Social Security benefits, the IRS provides a break by taxing only a portion of the Social Security benefits depending on the amount of other income. No one ever pays income taxes on more than 85 percent of his or her Social Security benefits and some pay on a smaller amount, based on these IRS rules: •If you file a federal tax return as an "individual" and your combined income* is between $25,000 and $34,000, you may have to pay income tax on 50 percent of your Social Security benefits. •If your combined income is above $34,000, up to 85 percent of your Social Security benefits is subject to income tax. •If you file a joint return: oYou may have to pay taxes on 50 percent of your benefits if you and your spouse have a combined income* that is between $32,000 and $44,000. oIf your combined income is more than $44,000, up to 85 percent of your Social Security benefits is subject to income tax. oIf you are married and file a separate tax return, you probably will pay taxes on your benefits.
While on medical leave from work, can they wait until the day your benefits end to tell you to to file LTD.? The letter was date 8-6-7, but postmarked 8-30-7 and I signed for it certified mail on 8-31-7. In the letter they claim to have been trying to reach by phone, which is untrue and basically cut off my medical and pay until I have these forms filled out and of course the insurance company will ultimatley decide if I can receive the Long Term Disability benefits. If they would have mailed it earlier in the month then I could have my doctor fill out the necessary paper work and had back to the insurance company, but now I have no money and no insurance and I'm kind of stunned. I'm on leave because of anxiety and they are aware of this and I believe they did this to push me over the edge. Can they do this? They probably can, but it doesn't seem fair that I could have had a 3 week start on the forms and instead now I have to start this from scratch and I don't have any money.
A 1099-G form? I received disability insurance benefits last year during my maternity leave. So does that mean I need a 1099-G form for my taxes? If so, how do I get one?
Do I owe my LTD insurance company?? My mom applied for social security disability before she died. She received long term disability benefits until she died through an insurance company. Her hearing for social security was last week. If she's awarded benefits, am I required to pay anything back to the insurance company? She was disabled for 37 months before she passed away. Please help!! there was no will and no one was ever appointed as executor of the estate. She had over $30K in hospital bills/credit card debt. There was a hearing b/c she applied for benefits in June 2003, it took them 4 years to hear the case. She died in March 2006. What can I do to find out if there is a clause in her contract through the LTD company?
Can you receive any kind of benefits in WI for being off of work for a medical reason? My boyfriend started his job 3 months prior to being off for cancer surgery and the company's disability insurance only pays when you have been there 6 months.

SS finds you disabled, but work insurance did not. Can you re-open case? I was denied benefits for long term disability from my employer's insurance, despite paying into it for 10 years. I was, however, found disabled and approved by social security. Can I go back now to my employer's insurance claim and say that SS determined I was disabled, how can they deny me then? Any advise? I already filed 2 appeals with them, but that was before SS approved me. They claimed it was my final appeal, yet I'm wondering if I have some sort of recourse since I was proved to be disabled.
company ins plan offers 26 weeks disability pay. fmla offers 12 weeks. I was 3 days before fmla 12weeks was up our employee health ins hand book clearly states we are entiteled to 26 weeks of disability benefit payments. this is the health ins plan the company offered. ifyour covered for 26 weeks of disability benefits under their ins plan, how can they fire you using fmla as their excuse? I was fired 3 days before the 12 weeks of fmla time limit was reached? I contacted EEOC and ohio's civil rights commission. they both sided with the company, saying the didn't do anything wrong. I paid extra for the family health insurance which turned out to be useless and a waste of my money. something doesn't sound right. what are my options on filing a civil lawsuit, is there a time limit on civil suits.

If I am on Short Term Disability with my employer am I still able to work my part-time work-at-home job? I just filed a claim for Short Term Disability benefits with my employer due to a condition that was caused by exposure to toxic mold. While I am waiting for approval from the insurance company handling my Short Term claim can I continue to put in some hours with my part-time work-at-home job to keep money coming in while I wait for this to be approved? And if so, would I be able to do the PT job while I am receiving Short Term benefits? My condition does not allow me to go to work but it does not hinder me from putting in 3 or 4 hours a day while I am home recovering. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. This would not be through the IRS or the US government. The benefits, if approved, would be through a third party insurer. Also, my job does not afford me the ability to bring my work home...believe I would if I could. See my condition leads me to have unpredictable dizzy spells and I need to be able to get to a bed, sofa, etc... when needed.
If you want to see the numbers on disability decrease, then here is how you do it:? My situation: I am on SSD...disability I have paid for. However, I think it's possible I could go to work. I want to work. I want to be productive. However, there is an obstacle in my way. My meds cost $500 a month, and if I can't get a job that can pay for those, and pay what it costs me to live as well, then I am stuck. I can't work; I am dependent on state medical insurance (Medicaid) to get the health care I need; this would be cut off in the event I did work. Now, if I had guaranteed health care, I would attempt to work a job immediately. I hope I'm making sense to someone. It does not save the tax-payers money to not have universal health care. It costs money in disability benefits. No one is going to sign up for a job when they have to pay over $500 a month in drugs they can't afford. With everything, my monthly health care bill is in the $700 range. Give me the health care I need, and I will work a job if it is at all possible. Thanks for reading this through. Comment, plz Super Freak, I didn't say I could work, I said I MIGHT be able to work. Linz, I don't have any sort of education and training that might give me the job I need to so this. Most employers who hire unskilled workers don't provide medical insurance to start with. In fact, most of them only want to hire you part-time to begin with. However, I am going to school online for social work. This will get me the job I need, I believe.
Should I stop accepting VA disability compensation? I started having problems with depression in the late 80's, and it got a LOT worse after I left the Air Force. In '91 a psychiatrist suggested that I file a disability claim with the Veterans' Administration. I didn't like the idea philosophically, but I did it anyway because I was really struggling financially and otherwise--plus I was on meds at that time and they're expensive without insurance. At first I was awarded a 10% disability and about $100/month, and a few years later I asked for more help and was increased to 30% & $325/mo...about 5 years ago I got a job that pays pretty well, and I don't really need the VA money. Plus, I think maybe that accepting the money and the disability diagnosis/rating keeps me somewhat depressed, because subconsciously I can't fully consider myself well as long as I'm accepting the disability/benefit(I started having a serious, chronic problem with tension/pain in my shoulder/neck/abdomen on my left side around the time that I filed the claim!)
The Best Superannuation Fund for me? I am 49 year old man, recently immigrated to Australia. I have been receiving a disability pension from the U.S. Government and a disability benefit from my private disability insurance company. My accountant here told me to put some money in a Superannuation Fund before 30 June to decrease my personal income tax here in Australia. What is the best Superannuation Fund for me?
Short term disabililty insurance? I just have a major surgery and I am hospitalized. My surgeon said I will be out of work from 12/24/07 to 3/24/08. I have balance of 29 days full illness pay, so I think my disability insurance should kick in on 2/5/08. I am filling out the form DE2501, they required me to mail the form no later than 49 days after the first day I became diabled, so I should mail out the asap, or I will lose the benefit. How do they know I want my claim to start on 2/5/08? because I don't want them to disqualify me when they detect that I will be receiving a paycheck at the end of the January. But I cannot mail out my form on February, because it pass the due date..... I am very confused with the EDD's instruction, I read their whole website and I don't find the answer. Please help!!!!!!
My soc sec disability case is being reviewed. Should I worry benefits will cease? went on in 01, hospital visits are non-existent now. Largely due to being able to take meds regularly (insurance) and being proactive. condition is about the same, but I have attempted part time work 2x for a few months.
disability/SSI benefit question? I have been on SSI since 2004 because of a disability with my back. I had 5 disk removed and have been unable to successfully hold down a job since. I applied for SSI and since been getting it monthly. I was told by my lawyer not to get married because I would loose all my benefits. I consulted others for a second opinion to hear I wouldnt loose all my income because my wife doesnt make enough. She only makes a little more than minimum wage. Since we got married in February all was fine and great. I reported the income change and was told there would be no diffrence in my monthly cut from SSI. Now I have just recieved note saying I lost it perminetly because my wife makes "too much" and I lost my health insurance. Does anyone have expierance with this? what are my rights and can I appeal? we simply can not afford to live now and my wife might even be pregnant now! I tried working a few jobs since this happened but I simply cant do it because I loose feeling in my legs =(
