Wondering how insurance works when you change plans in the middle of a pregnancy.?

Right now my husband and I are on his insurance plan and have a high deductible. If we change plans at open enrollment to a plan with a lower deductible and have already started seeing a docor for pregnacy, will the high deductible be the one they go by or the lower one on the plan we are planning to get?

  1. IT'd go with whatever your current insurance plan is. I wouuld make sure that the new insurance will cover your pregnancy. I was told at my job ( I got pregnant before I was eligible for insurance) that they would not cover my pregnancy because it was a pre-existing condition.
  2. As long as you get a statement from the original company that you were covered up to the transition date they will accept you. And under the new plan you have the new lower deductible. That is how it works around here, Before you change get the offeror to show you a piece of paper that proves that is true, just to be sure.
  3. Usually there is a 'pre-existing condition' clause that make a condition for which medical care had already started payable by the insurance plan that was in effect at the beginning. But you have to check with your company. If it is open enrollment, they should have somebody who can answer that question.
  4. You can absolutely change! You will need to the Dr's office know asap of the change, so they can adjust your account when the new benefits are official. It's really not as confusing as it seems. Congratulations!
