Which is the best company for Variable Universal life insurance?

Public Comments

  1. My, perhaps unpopular, opinion is that if you are not sophisticated enough to understand there isn't one company which is better than all the others, VUL may not be for you. If you still disagree with me, then talk to a fee-only financial planner about it (who has nothing to sell), not an insurance agent (who has something to sell). We also hear a variation of this question at least three times a week, so sorry if I sound jaded.
  2. Why do you want a variable universal life insurance? You should read the facts about it first before buying it: http://finance1o1.blogspot.com If you are looking for just pure life insurance, buy term insurance. If you are looking to build wealth by investing, look into mutual funds.
  3. first, the person who advised you to 'read the facts' is referring you to a blog - and i can tell you with certainty they don't know what the hell they're talking about. that said, if you are 50 or so, or younger, and it's within your budget, AND you're funding it based on conservative interest rate assumptions and strong cash-value solve goals (a legitimate agent will understand this), then there are a few carriers with very strong VUL contracts - hancock, lincoln, and sunlife. the illustration you're shown is only part of the scenario though - underwriting is the other part - this is the part where the carrier assesses your health and prices the policy accordingly. if you're in great health then all 3 carriers should probably price you very similarly - but - if you have health issues, then it may behoove you to apply to a couple of carriers and see who gives you the best offer.
  4. My advice is don't do it. "Variable" means just that.......... your money put in will "vary" up or down. These policies also cost more, and agents love to sell them because the commissions are enormous. Term is more sensable, and very inexpensive, look into it as level term for as far out as you can get.
  5. The “best” way to find out what is “best” for you is to talk to an independent insurance broker. A broker works with several companies and can point you to the best one. To find a broker in your area, log on to a website like http://www.lifeinsurancewiz.com and fill out a form requesting a free quote. Your information will be sent to a broker in your area who will contact you.
