Well the time of irrational exuberance is now long gone. For most Americans luxuries like new cars are a thing of the past. Now when a family is in need of a new car they are forced to look into buying a used car. This is evident in all of the financial problems the big 3 carmakers are having. There sales are down.
But most families will still need some sort of transportation. But when the money is hard to come by most families are going to have to choose a cheaper option. That alternative is used cars.
As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you are making a purchase of a used car, the last thing you want is a lemon. So by making sure there is proper inspectino performed, you can avoid most expensive repairs.
So when you are looking over these cars remember these couple of items to inspect.First you will want to inspect the brakes. We do San Diego brake in our shop. So I know first hand that brake repairs can become expensive. If you buy an auto that the owners didn’t take care of the brakes, that could lead to very expensive repairs. Last thing you want is to have to replace the entire braking system. So be sure you have good brakes.
Second you want to make sure it is running clean.Another way to say it, can it pass the smog test. In my business I do San Diego smog check. The last thing I am sure you want to happen is to buy a car that is in need of expensive repairs.Especially if the repairs are going to involve any emmission problems.
If you purchase a car that can’t pass a smog test that isn’t good. It is a sign that the car wasn’t taken care of.What most likely occured is they didn’t do any maintenance on it.These could be the beginning of a lot more issues down the road.
If you just check out these few items you can save money. By not doing proper checking you can fall into some huge repair bills. When you need to save money, I am pretty sure you don’t want that.

Why You Should Maintain Your Brakes
One of the things we take for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become second nature and routine and to some extemes a mindless activity for some people. You see people doing all kinds of things like doing makeup, reading, or talking on the phone, etc. while driving.
But if you really thought about it, your life is on the line everytime you drive a car. Whether it is someone else’s fault or yours, accidents do happen.
One cause of accidents, although seldom does it happen, is brakes failing.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle. Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind. I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.
Your brakes is most definitely not in sight. But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on. Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, the safety of your life and maybe your family’s life could depend on it.
With that in essence being the case, maintaining your breaks can be quite easy. You can either go to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to do it yourself.
Either way, the brake fluid level and the brake pad conditions are the two main things to look at.If you follow these two points vigilantly, you will ensure your brakes are safe.
When checking the brake fluid levels all you need to do is locate the fluid reservoir level. It is usually marked and has a ‘min’ line and a ‘max’ line. Make sure it isn’t below the ‘min’ line and you should have no problems.
Also check to make sure that your brake fluid is clear and has a yellow color to it. If it is not, you will have to flush the brakes and replace it with new fluid.
Brake fluids are easy maintenance. The more difficult part will be the brake pads. For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.
Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.
If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Worn brake pads make it difficult to control to a stop.
With your safety and any passengers safety on the line, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if need be, get your brakes fixed.
Following these 2 maintenance steps will keep your car safe for every driving occasion.

There are a lot of parts to your car you need to keep an eye on. In today’s times when autos have everything automatically, most of the times your cars maintenance gets neglected. Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.
After all, even cheap cars are considered state of the art driving machines like the Hyundai, so it is easy to believe nothing goes wrong.
That is a huge mistake. There are still parts of your car that need to be maintained and paid attention to. Most people take care of oil changes and things like that. Although that is vital for the life of your automobile, most people forget their brakes. Which is important to the life of themselves and their family.
So let’s take a look at your brakes and knowing when it is time to change them because they have become unsafe.
First sign of brakes needed to be replaced is when they grind or scratch. Usually this is a sign of the metal plates being gone that are supposed to hold the brake pads and now it rubs against the rotor. This is a bad sign and you have to go and replace your brakes immediately.
Second symptom is when your brakes make a loud screeching or a high pitch noise. A condition called glazed is what causes this. This occurs when someone always brakes too much and casues the rotors to heat up. The rotors are then burned.
You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.
A third problem is vibrations. If you have warped rotors and drums, braking will cause a vibration. This occurs because of excessive heat and this makes them lose shape. When it occurs, your rotor has to be replaced.
A final issue to examine is when your brakes are pullling. When you are braking, what will happen is your vehicle is pulled in one direction. This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly. This happens due to a fluid leak. To determine which side the leak is coming from, a brake professional needs to take a look. You take care of this by having the caliper replaced and getting all the air out of the brakes.
These are the common problems with brakes. When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.
When you take into account it’s your brakes which keep you from accidents, maintaining this part of your car you don’t want to neglect.
