If you are planning on going on holiday this summer then stop and think about how you are going to get around once you are out there. If you are staying in an hotel or villa that is central to everything then it is safe to say you are only likely to need a taxi to and from the airport cause you certainly will not be wanting to walk those cases with you after a long flight.
If like most people this is not an option then you are likely to hire a car for the either the entire of your holiday or for at least a duration. However there is a major issue with this in 2009 and that is that British travellers could be hit with an excess fee as high as £1,600 when they are actually hiring their car.
Although most car rental prices do tend to include collision damage waiver which will cover you from accidental damage to the car as well as theft protection they do not often make it known that you will be liable for the excess in the same way you would be for your own car. Of course car rental companies will help you out on this but will charge you anything between £500 to £1600 just for this excess which is certainly enough to ruin the holiday for everyone if something bad does happen.
The excess is usually not explained to you until you actually collect your car which by this stage the car company will try to sell you their own form of insurance which is not cheap. This is going to cost you a lot and will in most cases not cover you against everything.
{Sometimes it is best to actually fix this insurance before you go and can actually work out from as little as £2.98 a day}. Gadget insurance can also be useful when going away as it will cover you from all those technological things you like to take with you.
Of course if you are not going away then why not check your home insurance policy. Is it covering you from things like pest invasion? If it isn’t then you are going to need something known as home emergency insurance.

Lost in the car?
Posted in: insurance articles Tags: insurance, Sat Nav, travel insurance, vacation
You certainly would not be alone if you were to admit getting lost in the car with a partner not helping by giving out all the wrong directions. It is a very stressful thing and something that can cause huge arguments within the car which do not help both the situation and any kids that are sitting in the back wondering what is happening.
There is however a solution to this and that is to get a Sat Nav.They are basically a GPS system in your car that uses the Global Positioning Satellite what orbits the earth. It locks onto the Sat Nav receiver in the certain unit and calculates longitude, latitude as well as altitude which is useful indeed. It is then laid over a standard road map which reveals the drivers position from anything between 5-10 metres depending on how good it is. It can also work out the quickest route between two points which is going to save you on fuel. Furthermore it can combine average road speeds and other data to tell you on rough arrival times to your route. Road conditions can also be made available to you.
The price can be quite reasonable on these. If you are looking for one that maps Europe as well as the USA then it is going to cost you a bit extra but then again you are not going to get lost in either of these destinations.
It is possible that something ecould go wrong with th item? Will all you have to do is to get something known as gadget insurance which will cover something like this or you could even get Sat Nav insurance which is basically what it says it is and will cover your Sat Nav if it breaks.
If you are planning on going away then don’t forget to have travel insurance as it could really save you some money if something goes wrong when you are away.

Do not forget your insurance when hitting the slopes
Like many people, you may love winter sports so why not actually give it a go. Now obviously you cannot just jump straight in there without first having lessons as you are likely to cause yourself some serious damage. Gaining an injury can just as easily happen to someone who is experienced on the slopes. 1 out of every 100 skiers are likely to suffer an injury in a typical 5 day ski holiday which is not good. However if it is snowboarding you fancy this is likely to be halved with 1 in 50 doing themselves an injury.
Of course by injury it is certainly not meant that death or near death has anything to do with it. Without insurance even a broken limb could be very costly to you. Although it is going to be a lot more expensive to ski in places like Europe this year as for Brits the Euro is at a all time low in the exchange rates the cost of travel insurance is sometimes still fairly priced. For just under twenty pounds you can get yourself covered against all types of injuries which of course could benefit you if you unfortunately turn out to be one of these people who injures themselves on the slopes.
Do not let the current economical climate get you down this winter, get to another one and tear up the slopes knowing that if something does go wrong you have some insurance to back you up. I-pod insurance could also come in useful if you are looking to take it with you.
Of course if you are at home it is worth checking the home insurance to see if it covers you from everything. Sometimes only home emergency insurance will cover you from the less obvious things that are care potentially going to cost a lot of money to fix.

Camera Breaks On You When You Are Holiday
Well if something does happen to your camera when you are away there isn’t too much you can do about it unless you have camera insurance and even so there proposes a problem, you are not likely to be able to actually get a replacement whilst you are on holiday.
The best advice is to go out and buy a cheap camera from somewhere and just insert the SD card into it, and then when you get back you can actually contact the insurance company and get your camera replaced. This will not actually allow you to get the money back from the camera you purchased out there but it will allow you to get back that expensive camera of yours totally free of charge.
There are many places out there that will simply not cover you if you are on vacation so perhaps it could be a very wise decision to dive into that insurance policy to have a little look.
With the figure just being released that over 41% of us actually carry a camera around with us all of the time, now is the time to take out that insurance policy on it.
If you a fan of using the Sat Nav when you are away then you actually get world wide cover Sat Nav insurance that will cover you if the device breaks when you are driving down the unknown streets of a foreign country.
Once again this isnt going to help you if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere on holiday it can help when you get back as you will not have to spend any money at all getting a new one.
Gadget insurance is a general term for both of these and others and can actually be purchased to cover up to five different items. The thing is doing this is certainly going to save you money if something does happen.

Law Students knew their stuff a bit too well
Two students who were taking a holiday in Brazil have essentially been found that they were lying when they stated that they were robbed on a Brazilian bus. They have been arrested for insurance fraud as they were said to have claimed that over £1000 worth of their belongings had been taken from them on the bus. However when officers searched the two girls hostel in Rio de Janeiro it was found that the items they had claimed to be missing were actually in their lockers all along.
They have stated that they were in fact robbed but had simply got what they were robbed from them wrong.
Although the morale of the story seems to be not to lie it does teach an important lesson and that is that you should always have insurance on you.
If in fact they had not been lying they would have successfully been able to get back their money for the items taking proving that travel insurance does actually come in handy when you use it for the right reason
s rather than for personal gain. Whether or not they were telling the truth is unknown.
So at least this story will persuade more people to get out travel insurance as you now know for sure that it works. However they could have been telling the truth as having something taken away from you is a very traumatic experience and it isnt easy to remember everything that was taken.
Of course if you are not looking to go away this year a look into your home insurance could be what you need. Some of these do not actually cover you from many things which is why you might need to be looking into home emergency insurance.
One of the major things to remember is that if you are going to claim on the insurance is not to lie about it!
